Owl Cake

A friend of mine made the cutest owl cake. I fell madly in love with it and asked her if she would let me post it on my blog. She said yes! So here it is. Hold on to your hat. Seriously! It is that cute!!

As if that wasn't cute enough, she made a NEST for the owl. She made a nest out of pretzel rods! Now the only thing cuter than the stinking owl cake with a pretzel rod nest is her son standing NEXT to his owl cake!!

See for yourself:

So she gets total mom props for making her son an owl cake in the first place. But when she said it was okay for me to post it I asked her what cake pans she used so I could post those too. Her response:

I used a stainless steel bowl from the cupboard for the body and then stacked them up on each other. I had to cook them for an hour to make sure the center was done. I used a bread pan for the head and cut it into a kidney bean shape.

Jennifer...I LOVE YOU! You are brilliant!

Here are a couple of pictures of the cake in process!

I am now trying to figure out which one of my family members I can talk into loving owls before their birthday. Do you think I can fit owls into Valentine's Day somehow. Maybe make a big old owl cake for everyone with a card that says guess Whoooo Whoooo loves you? Or loving you is a Hoot! Do you think they will go for it?

I am totally in awe of this cake. My husband absolutely LOVES owls. Last year I even took him to a raptor conservatory for some upclose time with owls. I really need to make this cake for him but I've never done anything like that. Maybe I'll give it a try.

what totally impresses me is that isn't sitting up. I mean anyone can do a laying down owl, right? but all upright? that's crazy cool!!!

Wow, you have the most creative friends! This owl cake is great, but I'm trying to figure out when to bust one out! Halloween? Maybe after a trip to the zoo? Hmmm, maybe a nature theme birthday? I don't know.

ps. I love your blog.

An incredible edible creation! That said, I'm glad my kids don't make me make themed cakes anymore. ;)

i love it, that is how they baked shaped cakes in the "old dayz". I would have had an owl layed down and not 3 dimentional.
